This article will explain the making of a 17″ X 7 1/2″ wooden paper towel dispenser. Before we start let me tell you that you are absolutely free to select any kind of wood that you wish. You can give it any kind of artistic finish that you like. This will only help you to get the backbone up. What look you want to give it is on you.
In this project white oak was selected for the skeleton of the paper towel dispenser while the towel was made with the help spruce.For the purpose of this tutorial we have selected white oak for the body of the dispenser and spruce for the towel. You can buy all that you need from your nearby home improvement store or a related retailer. You can keep the board aside. This board will form the back of the wooden towel holder.
Mark the one by six boards at five and a half inches to get two perfect squares. Read on before you hastily end up cutting the pieces separate. Use a compass and pencil to draw a 1 inch circle on the left hand top side of each square. Place a pencil mark at about at a distance of three quarters of an inch from each corner. You will now have the 1″ hole that you will make with a compass at the center. Use a one inch paddle bit to drill through the one by six. Remember to round the edges using a compass. You may want to simply trace some round object.
Using the jig saw remove the curved angles. Once the curves have been cut out, finish cutting the rest of the straight lines with the circular saw. You are now ready with the two brackets needed for the paper towel dispenser.
Pre-drill two cavity each with a quarter inch drill bit 1 5/8″ and at fifteen three by eight inches from the corners and ¾ inch from the top and bottom. Now pre-drill the 2 brackets three quarter inch from the bottom and top and centered on the ¾ width of the board.
Fix the two brackets to the front of the 17 inch board. Using glue will help you make the bond more stronger. Size the dowel to seventeen inches and smoothen the ends with a sand paper. It is not a bad idea to sand the towel bar and brackets now.] Wipe away any loose debris or wood glue with a wet cloth.
Hang the towel holder to the wall in your washroom with 2 large screws into the wall studs or use two toggle screws for drywall. All you need to do is slide in a roll of paper towel and your new wooden kitchen paper towel dispenser is ready.
